Student Historian

Charles Kelly Barkley is a graduate student in English Literature in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film at Oregon State University. He earned two undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas in 2014 in English and Art History. At Oregon State, Charles teaches composition to undergraduates, asking students to consider the ways art and culture affect one another through analysis of a range of rhetorical situations. In his research, Charles combines his interests in visual art and literature. His forthcoming master’s thesis will cover a range of artists and writers from the Harlem Renaissance and after, including Nella Larsen, Aaron Douglas, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
