Joyce Stephens-Suber

Independent Historian

Joyce Y. Stephens-Suber is a divorcee and the proud mother of two children:  Arika J. Wells married to Raymond Wells, and Christopher J. Suber.  She holds a BA in History and Behavioral Science from CSU Dominguez Hills, an MA in U.S. History from Washington State University and educational credentials from San Diego State University.  She is a retired Regional Director of the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program at the San Diego County Office of Education.

Joyce serves as board member/ officer to the Simon Family Foundation, Black Story Tellers of San Diego, the AVID Orange County Dollars for Scholars Board, and the AVID San Diego County Dollars for Scholars Board.  She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and has served as President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, and Debutante Ball Chairman, of the local chapter—Epsilon Xi Omega.  Joyce is currently the Southern California Cluster Coordinator.
