Academic Historian

Melody M. Miyamoto is a Professor of History at Collin College.  She attended the University of Hawaii where she received her B. Ed., and she earned her M. A. and Ph. D. in History from Arizona State University. Her main area of study includes the nineteenth-century American West.  She is currently working on a study of gender and society on the Overland Trails, and on a project examining the lives of Japanese Americans in Hawaii during World War II.  Her publications have appeared in The Encyclopedia of Immigration and Migration in the American West, The Overland Journal, and Documentary Editing.  She also wrote the introduction to Kenneth Holmes’s Best of Covered Wagon Women, Volume 2, Emigrant Girls on the Overland Trails.
