Academic Historian

Melody M. Miyamoto Walters is a Professor of History at Collin College.  She attended the University of Hawaii where she received her B. Ed., and she earned her M. A. and Ph. D. in History from Arizona State University. Her main area of study includes the nineteenth-century American West.  Her publications have appeared in The Encyclopedia of Immigration and Migration in the American West, The Overland Journal, and Documentary Editing.  She also wrote the introduction to Kenneth Holmes’s Best of Covered Wagon Women, Volume 2, Emigrant Girls on the Overland Trails.  Her book, In Love and War:  The World War II Courtship Letters of a Nisei couple, which examines the lives of Japanese Americans in Hawaii during World War II, was published by the University of Oklahoma Press.
