Shu-chen Lucas was born and raised in Taiwan. She and her husband Glen Lucas and their daughter Rose moved back to the United States in 1998. In 2008, Shu-chen decided to return to school, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA degree in history from Washington State University Tri-Cities in May 2010. She was admitted to the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington in fall 2010 and completed her MA in China Studies in spring 2011.
