Doris Richardson Johnson, currently an English instructor at Jefferson State Community College, began teaching in 1973 as an Associate Professor in Black Studies/ English at Washington State University. After beginning her career in Pullman, Washington, she moved back to her hometown where she fulfilled a dream of returning to teach at Meridian Community College. Earning her Bachelor’s of English from Tougaloo College and her Master’s of English from Washington State University, she has been a life-long learner, earning further graduate credits from Mississippi State University, University of New Hampshire, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Washington State University, and most recently, online certification for Distance Learning from the University of California at Los Angeles. Her commitment to helping students engage in learning is demonstrated by her determination to teach development English each semester, along with her American literature classes.
