Nyjah Imani Huston is an American professional skateboarder. He was born on November 30, 1994, to Adeyemi Huston and Kelle Huston in Davis, California. Huston and his siblings were raised in a strict Rastafarian lifestyle: they were vegans, and their mother homeschooled them. Huston began skateboarding at the age of five, introduced to the sport by his father, who was also a skateboarder. When Huston was ten, his parents purchased an indoor skate park in nearby Woodland, California, to give him more time and space to practice.
In 2006, Huston’s father moved the family to Puerto Rico. The move caused issues with his skateboard sponsor, Element Skateboards, as Huston was unable to participate in promotional demos. Eventually, his parents separated, and his mother moved back to California with Huston’s siblings. Huston initially stayed in Puerto Rico with his father, who acted as his manager and videographer. After his parents divorced, his mother was granted custody, and Huston moved back to California with her and his siblings.
Huston officially turned pro in skateboarding in 2005. That year he signed a sponsorship deal with Element Skateboards and joined their team following his first street contest win at the 2005 Tampa Am, an annual skateboard competition associated with the Skatepark of Tampa in Tampa, Florida. While with Element, Huston appeared in numerous video productions. In 2009, he launched his own skateboard company, I&I.
Between 2010 and 2020, Huston experienced the greatest success of his skateboarding career. He consistently finished in the top two at the World Skateboarding Championships, winning six gold and four silver medals. He also excelled at the Summer X Games, where he earned fifteen gold medals, five silver medals, and four bronze medals. In 2024, he won a bronze medal in the men’s street skateboarding competition at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Huston is one of the wealthiest skateboarders in the world, with a net worth estimated at around $12 million. He has collaborated with several major skateboard brands, including Nike SB, DC Shoes, and Element Skateboards. He has also launched his own skateboarding apparel and product lines.
In addition to his competitive success, Huston has appeared as a character in numerous skateboarding video games, including Tony Hawk’s Project 8, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, Tony Hawk: Ride, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4.
Despite his accomplishments, Huston has faced several legal issues. In 2017, he was arrested for assaulting a man at a party and was sentenced to 24 months’ probation after pleading no contest to one misdemeanor count of disturbing the peace. In 2022, Huston was sued for allegedly assaulting a man in a physical altercation; he countersued, also claiming he had been assaulted.
Despite these controversies, Huston’s career continues as of 2025.
