Weems, Robert E.

Robert E. Weems, Jr. is the Willard W. Garvey Distinguished Professor of Business History at Wichita State University. A native of Chicago, Illinois, he received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His numerous publications include three books: Black Business in the Black Metropolis: The Chicago Metropolitan Assurance Company, 1925-1985 (Indiana University Press, 1996); Desegregating The Dollar: African American Consumerism in the Twentieth Century (New York University Press, 1998); and Business in Black and White: American Presidents and Black Entrepreneurs in the Twentieth Century (New York University Press, 2009). His current projects include a book-length biography of Anthony Overton, arguably the most prominent black entrepreneur in early twentieth century America.
