April L. Harris is an adjunct professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Philosophy, Humanities and Religion at Santa Rosa Junior College, Santa Rosa, California. She has co-authored a number of articles on Student Success Models and presented extensively on African American community, life and history. Her research includes examinations of the Underground Railroad, the Harlem Renaissance and the westward migrations of African Americans, particularly during World War II. This native of Marin City, California is preparing to defend her dissertation, Education on the Underground Railroad in New York State (1850-1870) at Syracuse University. She lives in Kelseyville, California with her son, Jeremy.
