Essington, Amy

Amy Essington graduated from Claremont Graduate University after completing her dissertation, "Segregation, Race, and Baseball: The Integration of the Pacific Coast League, 1948-1952." She is a lecturer at California State University, Fullerton and Los Angeles City College. Her article "Baseball on the Pacific Coast: The Integration of the Pacific Coast League," appeared in the Fall 2008 issue of Journal of the West. She authored "’She Loved Baseball’: Effa Manley and the Negro Leagues," published in Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture (McFarland, 2001). Amy has presented, written encyclopedia entries, and book reviews on topics of social history, race, and baseball. She is the executive director of the Historical Society of Southern California.
