Lauren Ackerman graduated from Macalester College in 2010 with a degree in Political Science and International Studies. Her interest in how movements for social justice inform each other across borders and identities led her study the intersection of the gay rights movement and the anti-Apartheid movement in Cape Town, South Africa. After graduating, Lauren taught English in a STEM-focused high school in northwestern Japan. She is currently a candidate for the University of Washington Secondary Teachers Education Program and hopes to teach high school civics and social studies.
